When the snow piles up and the wind bites at your neck, nothing soothes quite like a hot bowl of something delicious. In Jackson Hole, where winters are long and wild, locals have turned comfort food into an art form. From steaming chili to creamy tomato bisques and brothy bowls from across the globe, these dishes define the season.
Whether you’ve just come off the slopes, wandered around the Town Square, or simply need something grounding and good, here’s a roundup of cozy bowls that promise winter comfort in every spoonful.
Chilis to Stoke the Fire
Snake River Brewing – This local favorite’s Wyoming Bison & Beef Chili is deeply rooted in Jackson tradition. Made with local bison, Mead Ranch beef, and spicy chilies, it’s topped with sharp white cheddar, green onions and pickled jalapeños and served with a slice of golden cornbread. A true mountain meal.

The Handle Bar – Elevated and elegant, The Handle Bar’s Elk Chili is far from your average après fare. Created by Chef Michael Mina and carried forward by Executive Chef Aleczander Herrera, this bold dish blends elk, beans, tomatoes and spices with the unexpected richness of dark chocolate, a refined twist on a rugged classic. Chef Herrera notes: “Our signature elk chili is the perfect balance of local flavors and cozy mountain warmth. As the weather turns crisp, nothing hits the spot like a warm and hearty bowl.”
Tomato-Forward Favorites
Trio – The BLT Soup at Trio is a playful, elegant take on the familiar. Chef-owner Will Bradof transforms the classic sandwich into a bowl of tomato richness, layered with bacon lardons, sourdough garlic croutons, and a swirl of arugula pesto. Pair it with blue cheese waffle fries and a Martinez or 1999 cocktail for the full experience.
Persephone – Beloved local bakery Persephone sets the gold standard for cozy with its tomato soup and grilled cheese. Made with love and a dash of French café charm, it’s ideal for snowy afternoons. Owner Ali Cohane says: “This classic can be prepared in countless ways, but as bakers who love butter, we certainly don't skimp in our soup either! Our version has a rich, creamy texture, perfectly balanced by the bright acidity of San Marzano tomatoes.”

El Abuelito – This family-owned gem serves a tortilla soup that’s both spicy and soul-soothing. Warm, authentic, and generous, it’s a taste of Mexico in the Tetons. In a town with plenty of polish, El Abuelito offers something grounded and deeply real.
Global Bowls for a Cold Day
Everest Momo Shack – Craving Himalayan heat? Try the Traditional Nepalese Thali Platter, which includes lentil soup served alongside jasmine rice, papadum and seasonal vegetables. Nourishment from the inside out.
Thai Plate – For those longing for Southeast Asian heat, Tom Yum and Tom Kha Gai soups deliver bright, tangy warmth. Spicy, coconut-rich and loaded with herbs, they bring tropical comfort to mountain winter.
BAPP – If Korean flavors call, head to BAPP for Bibimbap, served sizzling and topped with colorful vegetables. The accompanying miso soup is simple, savory and deeply satisfying.

Not-to-Miss Classics
The Wort Hotel – A Jackson institution, The Silver Dollar Bar & Grill’s corn chowder has been a signature since 1985. With sweet corn, smoky bacon, white wine and potatoes, it’s the taste of winter nostalgia in a bowl.
Sidewinders Tavern – A relaxed, post-adventure spot with bigger flavors. Their French Onion Soup is a hit: rich, cheesy and crowned with crusty bread. Stay for the Brussels sprouts and burgers; you won’t regret it.
Soup To-Go for the Trail or Couch
Pearl Street Market – Just steps from the Town Square, this locally owned deli offers rotating daily soups perfect for grab-and-go. Ideal before a snowshoe or for fireside comfort.
Creekside Market – Tucked near Dairy Queen, this unassuming favorite boasts a rotating soup bar paired with their signature sandwiches or burritos. A true local’s secret.

In Jackson Hole, where the wild meets the refined, winter comfort is found in every café and tavern. Whether it’s chili and cornbread, French onion soup, or a slice of pie by the fire, these bowls warm not just the body but the spirit, turning the long winter into a season of soul-nourishing flavors.
