The story of MODERNBEAST begins not in a boardroom, but in the heart of a fundraiser. Founder Lona, a former television and film writer, and CEO Hope Reiners, a designer with roots in Nebraska, met while organizing an event for Best Friends Animal Society. Their shared creativity and love for animals sparked a conversation — and eventually a company — built entirely around one simple idea: every animal deserves a safe, loving home.

That belief became their mission. From day one, MODERNBEAST was designed to give back 100% of profits to animals in need. “Giving back isn’t an afterthought for us,” Reiners says. “It’s the very foundation of who we are.”

It’s a philosophy that has only deepened as animal rescue organizations across the country face unprecedented challenges — from overburdened shelters to rising costs of care. MODERNBEAST exists to lighten that load, supporting the groups on the front lines who make lasting change for animals and their human companions.

Introducing “The Round Up”

This October, MODERNBEAST took its philanthropic mission one step further with the launch of The Round Up, a new Give Back Initiative that invites customers to participate in the company’s generosity.

“MODERNBEAST has always donated 100% of proceeds back to 501(c)(3) charities,” Reiners explains. “Now, we’re inviting our customers to join in on the philanthropic fun.”

Each quarter, MODERNBEAST will spotlight a different animal welfare nonprofit. To kick off the program, the Q4 recipient is none other than Aska’s Animals — a partnership that runs deep and close to home. To celebrate this new chapter, MODERNBEAST has committed $100,000 to sponsor a Puppy Palace for 2026, a gift that will help expand Aska’s capacity to care for and rehabilitate dogs in need.

It’s a bold gesture — and a meaningful one. The Round Up doesn’t just encourage customers to give; it creates a sense of shared purpose, turning every purchase into a tangible act of kindness.

A Local Partnership with Heart

For MODERNBEAST, Aska’s Animals was a natural first choice. The connection began years ago and has only grown stronger. “We helped place three mama dogs and 28 puppies rescued from the California desert this year,” Reiners says. “I personally made two trips to Idaho to deliver the puppies safely into Aska’s care.”

The admiration is mutual. Aska’s Animals represents a rare blend of heart and innovation — a small but mighty local nonprofit focused on reducing shelter populations, offering canine behavior support, and providing sanctuary for farm animals in need. “Their work is transformative,” Reiners says. “It goes beyond rescue. It creates lasting change for animals and for the people who love them.”

That ripple effect of compassion extends right to MODERNBEAST’s storefront, where every purchase supports efforts like these — from puppy rescue to behavioral rehabilitation to lifelong sanctuary care.

We design and source with that in mind.”

Celebrating a Year — and Expanding the Pack

As MODERNBEAST marks its one-year anniversary in Jackson Hole, there’s plenty to celebrate. The store has quickly become a beloved stop for locals, visitors, and their four-legged companions — a place where purchases have purpose and tails wag freely. But the team isn’t stopping there.

“We’re thrilled to be preparing for the opening of our sister store, The Biscuit Bar,” Reiners shares. “It’s another way for us to expand our mission and connect with this incredible community.”
