The scoop on all things canine in Jackson Hole
Summer 2025
In Jackson Hole, we love our dogs. No two ways about it; our four-legged friends are important to us! We adore when they join us on adventures, tag along on errands and get to enjoy Jackson Hole as much as we do.
Whether you (and your pooch) are visiting or longtime locals, these are some of our favorite pet-friendly spots and great resources for all things canine.
Pets in Parks
Dogs are absolutely allowed inside Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park. There are, however, some important rules to keep in mind. Your furry family member is welcome in developed areas like campgrounds, parking areas, picnic areas and within 30 feet of roads. However, they must be on a leash (less than 6 feet in length) in these spaces.
They’re not permitted on hiking trails, in the backcountry, in visitor centers or on river/lakeside beaches.
Though these rules may sound strict, it’s for the safety of your pet and the wildlife that lives in the national park.
Downtown Dogs
If you’re taking your dog to downtown Jackson Hole, please ensure that they’re on a leash. There’s lots of traffic, plenty of people moving about and it can be quite overwhelming for a pet.
There are, however, plenty of places that welcome (leashed and well-behaved) dogs! The lawn at Snake River Brewing is dog-friendly, as is StillWest Brewery & Grill. Healthy Being Juicery & Cafe and The Bird are also well-known for being welcoming to pets.
If you’re on an adventure — rafting, horseback riding, etc. — that excludes your furry companion, please don’t leave them in your vehicle. It can be exceedingly dangerous! Instead, check out a local pet care resource like Dog Jax or Homestead Hound. They offer top-caliber care for your canine while you’re out!
Need Something?
Did you arrive in Jackson Hole only to realize that you’ve forgotten some of your pet essentials? Our go-to spot for all pet-related needs is Furry Bellies Pet Boutique in Teton Valley. They’ve got everything a pet parent needs (and more!) to keep your dog happy and healthy in the summer months.
If your pet is feeling under the weather or gets injured, there are plenty of compassionate and capable veterinary resources in the area. Spring Creek Animal Hospital has a sterling reputation of exceptional care for critters of all sizes. If you’re on the Teton Valley side, Driggs Veterinary Clinic offers great care, too!
Dog-Friendly Outdoors
There are plenty of spaces where well-behaved dogs are welcome in Jackson Hole’s expansive outdoor playground. If you’re looking for a spot that’s convenient for a walk, check out Cache Creek or Emily Stevens Pond — both are within a few minutes’ drive of downtown. Make sure to pack some Mutt Mitts, though; you’re responsible for packing out any waste your pet leaves behind.
The Bridger-Teton National Forest is also a great space for recreating with dogs. They’re not required to be on a leash in the general forest if they’re under good voice control. Again, it’s for the safety of both your dog and the wildlife that calls the forest home. (Note: Some places like trailheads may have rules about leashes, so always pay attention to signs.)
Here in Jackson Hole, we know that your dog is an essential part of your family and a special piece of your Western adventures! There are plentiful spaces and resources to ensure that you and your critters have an unforgettable visit.
