A welcome addition to the JHStyle team, Lu talks writing inspo, summer salads, and the allure of the woods

Summer/Fall 2026

You’ve read their stories—now meet the people behind the words. We asked our JHStyle writers to tell us what inspires them, where they go for a perfect day in Jackson Hole, and what they’re looking forward to most this summer in a one-of-a-kind mountain town.

Lu Snyder is a new addition to the JHStyle contributor team, and in the new edition, you'll discover her thoughtful exploration of how to make your yard an oasis for wildlife. From suggestions on native plants to tips for safely living in bear country, she dives deep. We caught up with her to find out what's inspiring her lately, what makes summer irresistible, and what tastes best after a day on the trail. (You can keep up with her seasonal adventures and enjoy her beautiful photography — @mtnwriter on Insta!)

What's a perfect summer day, start to finish?

Outdoor yoga, enjoy coffee in the sun while I watch the hummingbirds in my garden, hit the trail with my pups/a friend, eat dinner outside, watch the sunset, loop the pups as darkness falls

What's something you think people don't understand about living in the mountains?

It may seem like utopia, but for most of us, it involves a lot of hard work & sacrifices

What's one thing you'll always say yes to in the summer?

Getting outside

Go-to trail snack?

Gummy bears, sour patch kids and/or dark chocolate

Favorite post-adventure beverage?

Green smoothie

What meal absolutely screams "summer" to you?

Greek salad

Flip-flops or Chacos? (Or something else entirely?)

Birks

Where do you go when you need to reset?

In the woods

What's inspiring you this season?

My inspiration every season: Nature, birds/animals/wildlife, random acts of kindness

What's something you're loving right now? (Book, podcast, tv series, anything!) Why?
