In a region where the landscape often takes center stage, the best interiors are the ones that know how to step back—and let nature in. For interior designer Hayden Jones of Festive Living, that balance is at the heart of her latest project in Tributary, a 1,500-acre private community in Teton Valley, where she designed her clients’ home to feel both elevated and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Now celebrating more than 20 years in business, Hayden has built a reputation for creating interiors that balance mountain living with timeless design, often working with repeat clients who trust her to bring their vision to life.

Hayden’s project in Tributary belongs to a Connecticut couple who plan to use the 5,000-square-foot home as a Western retreat. From the beginning, the clients had a clear vision: a classic mountain-modern aesthetic built around a neutral palette, layered with rich textures to add warmth and depth.

The interiors were designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of Teton Valley. Stone, granite, and other earthy materials complement the soft, neutral color scheme, creating spaces that feel both refined and grounded in their environment.

Hayden also added a custom-made walnut slab dining room table as well as bringing in a local furniture maker to create custom, built-in bunk beds.

“It’s really about creating depth and visual interest without relying on bold colors,” Hayden says.

Sitting on a rare lot that backs up to the 12th hole of the community’s golf course, the outdoor spaces were equally as important as the interior.

“Because the lot backs up to open space, we really saw the outdoor area as an extension of the home, almost like an additional living space,” Hayden says. “The goal is to create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection that takes full advantage of the views and natural setting.”

Hayden thoughtfully divided the home’s expansive deck into three distinct zones, each designed for a different kind of gathering. A dining area anchors one section, featuring a large 10-seat table perfect for meals with family and friends. Nearby, a lounge area invites relaxation with two sofas, a coffee table, and two lounge chairs, while an additional seating area offers chaise lounges for sun-soaked reclining.

“Our clients have a large family and lots of friends that visit that they enjoy entertaining, so it was important to have plenty of seating and comfortable spaces for them to relax and visit,” Hayden says.

The space extends to a cozy fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs, and a hot tub completes the outdoor experience, creating a seamless blend of entertaining, relaxing, and soaking in the surroundings.

About Festive Living

At Festive Living, Hayden works on both new builds and remodels throughout Jackson Hole and the surrounding areas. Whether starting with a blank canvas or collaborating with builders from the ground up, her approach is comprehensive—transforming homes into fully realized, move-in-ready spaces. In addition to furnishing and décor, she oversees every detail, from bedding and dishware to finish selections like paint, tile, fixtures, flooring, and cabinetry.

“It’s very rewarding to completely transform an empty house into a fully functioning beautiful home,” Hayden says.

Hayden’s primary focus is her interior design business, but her creative vision extends beyond client projects to a retail showroom in a historic building on Main Street in Victor. Since opening her own business in 2006, she has curated a space that effortlessly reflects her aesthetic—a mix of furniture, lighting, accessories, and housewares that allows clients to make their homes turnkey, everything from sheets and towels to rugs and decor.

HAYDEN'S 5 MUST-HAVES FOR SUMMER

  • Cedar outdoor furniture: Festive Living sells cedar Adirondacks, dining tables, and benches in the summer months made locally in Idaho. Cedar is naturally weather resistant, and ages beautifully over time. It brings warmth to an outdoor setting while still feeling relaxed and approachable.
  • Hurricanes: Hurricanes are an easy way to create instant ambience. Whether styled down the center of a dining table or scattered throughout an outdoor space, they add that soft, layered glow that makes summer evenings feel special.
  • Neutral, textured table linens: Lightweight linens in soft neutrals or bright colors help set the tone without feeling overly done. Hayden loves pieces with subtle texture or a slightly imperfect finish—they make the table feel inviting and lived in.
  • Serveware with natural elements: Wood, marble, or ceramic serving pieces elevate even the simplest spread. They’re practical but also double as part of the overall aesthetic.
  • Layered outdoor textiles: Outdoor pillows and throws in performance fabrics are key for comfort, but also elevate any outdoor space. Mixing in different textures—like woven, linen, or boucle-inspired fabrics helps outdoor space feel just as considered as the interior.
