Whitewater fun, post-hike beer and pizzas, and inspiration only the sunrise can deliver — Lanie Brice's summer vibes
Summer/Fall 2026
You’ve read their stories—now meet the people behind the words. We asked our JHStyle writers to tell us what inspires them, where they go for a perfect day in Jackson Hole, and what they’re looking forward to most this summer in a one-of-a-kind mountain town.
Readers will recognize Lanie Brice's name from previous articles including a wonderful profile of local athlete and trainer Crystal Wright, and an exclusive look at the local brand that's all about keeping gear alive as long as possible: NoSo Patches. In the latest edition, Lanie showcases the 65th anniversary of the iconic Grand Teton Music Festival and got to know the compassionate rescuers behind Aska's Animals in Teton Valley, Idaho. We caught up with her to find out what her idea of a perfect summer day looks like, why Dornan's is tough to beat on a beautiful day, and unadulterated river fun. (You can follow her adventures and writing @laniebrice on Instagram or at https://laniebrice.com.)

What's a perfect summer day, start to finish?
Wake up and start getting ready to head to the river, get sour cream and cheddar ruffles and stock the cooler, and head to the West Table Boat Ramp to run the whitewater. End the day at Snake River Brewing sitting outside, enjoying a perfect, sunny day.
What's something you think people don't understand about living in the mountains?
That the weather changes fast! You can go from clear sky to drenched to clear sky again in fifteen minutes.
What's one thing you'll always say yes to in the summer?
A sloshie.
Go-to trail snack?
Goldfish are always a staple. Jolly Ranchers are perfect for when you're ready to quit and need a sugar hit to keep going.
Favorite post-adventure beverage?
Hard to beat a beer on the roof of Dornan's when you're dusty from a hike.
What meal absolutely screams "summer" to you?
Dornan's pizza

Flip-flops or Chacos? (Or something else entirely?)
Chacos all day.
Where do you go when you need to reset?
I go to the river, usually down by the South Park boat ramp, or I'll go on a bike ride down past Melody.
What's inspiring you this season?
I've been accidentally catching the sunrise the last few days of the week, and that's been oddly inspiring.

What's something you're loving right now? (Book, podcast, tv series, anything!) Why?
I have become obsessed with the podcast Sentimental Garbage. There's a huge back catalog, so you won't run out of episodes. It's all about having serious but fun conversations on things that tend to get dismissed by society like The Real Housewives and Taylor Swift and movies like 10 Things I Hate About You.
